Last month I wrote an article titled A Spiritual Lesson in Acceptance an Forgiveness. One of the highlights of it was the conversation my massage therapist and I had about dealing with difficult people. While working out the stress and tension in my body, he noticed that all of the plants in my living and dining room were pretty much dead.
Not only were they sucking the energy out of the room, they were bringing me down every time I looked at them. His assignment for me that weekend, in addition to performing yoga and drinking lots of water was to replace all of the dead plants in my home with live ones.
Although I love being surrounded by plants, I must admit that I have not cared for them well over the years. In fact this last stretch of 6 years has been the longest period of time that I have had them alive in my care.
Finding the money tree
An so, I began my journey to bring nature back into my home. But I didn’t’ want just any plants. First, I wanted plants that were not poisonous to my cat, and second I wanted plants that had meaning. So when I saw a Japanese money tree (pachira) at the Sears Hardware store, I had to have it. The money tree stuck out to me because I thought it would be just the catalyst I needed to take my first step to attracting more money, and it was. There are many ways to earn an income online.
The internet entrepreneurs that I follow have multiple streams of income that involve creating their own products like workbooks and eBooks, offering coaching and other services and affiliate marketing. I settled on affiliate marketing. For those of you who don’t know, affiliate marketing is when you sell someone else’s product in exchange for a commission. The commissions are set by the seller or creator of the product and can vary anywhere from 3% to 75% or more. Many internet entrepreneurs make a full time living with affiliate marketing-some having dozens of product sites.
Passive income
One of the things attracted me to affiliate marketing is the passive nature of it. You pick a product, promote the product and watch the dollars roll in. All of the internet marketers that I follow promote their products through their blogs, social media and by creating niche sites which are mini-websites that are geared around a particular product or product line.
Let’s say for example that through my research I found out that swimming pool pumps were a hot selling item Amazon.com, I would create a small web site featuring various swimming pool pumps. After the website was created, I would work on promoting it so that it ranked highly in the Search Engines (First or Second page of Google) and every time someone bought one of the pull pumps, I would earn a commission. It is a very simple money-making model.
The key is picking the “right products”, right words to promote it, and ranking in the search engines for them. I am not going to go into detail about this now, but will give it the attention it deserves in an update article on my progress. My first affilitate marketing site will focus on providing reviews of Amazon.com products. So far, I have selected the niche, selected the products and am in the process of creating the site.
Moving forward
Although I have been thinking about this for a year, I am just now doing it. The first half of the year, I was learning about blogging and internet marketing, the second half of the year, I was hesitating. My hesitation was coming from my fear of failing. I did not want to put a significant amount of time and energy into an endeavor that I was not guaranteed to be rewarded for. Interestingly some internet marketers have made same day sales. I I wrote titled Fail Your Way to Success – A Lesson from Teenage Internet Entrepreneurs. One thing that stuck out to me was that they expected to fail and even considered it a part of sucessess. So embracing this, I am moving forward.

I think that is such an important message you shared about not being afraid to fail your way to success. That really is what it is all about and how we accomplish everything we can. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Sibyl,
Thanks for your comment. Very true! It is helpful if we remind ourselves of that especially when embarking on new endeavors.
