Decide that you want it more than you are afraid of it. -Bill Cosby
I have said it before and I’ll say it again and I’ll probably say it a ton more. I have declared 2012 the year of fearlessness
The reason I dedicated this year to fearless action is because that is exactly what it was going to take to grow Getting to Zen and to further my personal growth.
Fear is a funny thing. It can be triggered by an event that has the very real potential of ending in tragedy like sky diving, summiting Mt. Everest or feeding the bears while camping or it can be triggered by something as seemless a public speaking, the fear of making decisions or for a really shy person, saying hello.
But fear is fear and it feels the same to all of us.
If we let it, it will stop of from achieving the fullest expression of ourselves.
We have all been called to do something; our job is to figure out what it is and then do it.
Your talent may not be your purpose
Just because you are talented at doing something does not mean that it is your life purpose. I am a talented runner (I missed the olympic qualifying time in the marathon by 1 minute 59 seconds in 2004) Don’t get me wrong, I absolute loved running and still do, but I also know that I was meant to do much more than run.
Your passion will lead you to your purpose
If you don’t know what your purpose is, do something you love and it will be revealed. Ultimately, we all have the same purpose: to teach; to help; to motivate; to love; to grow; to connect; but how it manifests is different for each of us. Some of us are teachers and motivational speakers and coaches while others of us are artists, accountants, lawyers, auto mechanics and stay at home moms or dads.
So you may wonder how you will know if you are living on purpose.Well, here’s a tip. If you were living on purpose, you wouldn’t have to ask.
Potential never happens
Potential is a tricky one to address. Basically, it means that you aren’t where you need to be now. The thing about potential is that you can never reach it because there is ALWAYS some improvement you can make to be better, faster, smarter, more fit.
When I think about it, the word has so much pressure associated with it. We tell ourselves that we are not living up to our potential and the only thing that does is create stress.
Has anyone ever really lived up to their potential? To me, it is as unatainable as being “perfect.”
I say forget about potential and just try to be the best that you can be.
You won’t be around forever
There is no way around this one. Your life will come to an end. When you think about it, we really don’t have that much time on this planet.
Use your short time here on earth as motivation to become the fullest expression of yourself, whatever that may be. Love hard; laugh hard; cry hard; work hard; play hard.
